No. 18 Women’s Tennis defeats No. 36 K-State, 6-1

The Longhorns improved to a perfect 28-0 all-time in dual-match play against the Wildcats.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 18 University of Texas women's tennis team defeated No. 36 Kansas State, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns (8-3, 1-0 Big 12) improved to 20-3 in Big 12 Conference openers and a perfect 28-0 all-time against the Wildcats (10-6, 0-2 Big 12).
Texas jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. K-State's duo of Margot Decker and Anna Turco rallied from a 3-0 deficit to post a 6-3 win against junior Petra Granic and freshman Tijana Spasojevic at the No. 1 line.
Texas' sophomore tandem of Fernanda Labraña and Bojana Markovic evened doubles action with a 6-4 victory against Ioana Gheorghita and Maria Linares at the No. 3 spot. Trailing 4-3, Labraña and Markovic won three consecutive games, all on deuce points, to close out the 6-4 win.
Junior twin sisters Anna and Bianca Turati clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory against Ines Mesquita and Karine-Marion Job at the No. 2 line. The Turati twins jumped out to a 5-2 lead before K-State's pair won the next two games. The Texas duo, who improved to 6-2 in dual-match doubles action this spring, finished the match in the ensuing game on a deuce point.
No. 52 Granic moved to 5-0 this spring in dual-match singles play and increased the UT lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Job at third singles. Gheorghita pulled K-State within 2-1 after a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win against Spasojevic at the No. 6 line.
No. 75 Bianca Turati gave the Longhorns a 3-1 cushion with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory against Linares at the No. 1 spot. No. 105 Markovic clinched the dual-match win, gutting out a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 victory against Turco at fourth singles. After splitting the first two sets and trailing 5-4 in the third, Markovic rallied to win three consecutive games to close out the win.
With the dual match decided, Labraña added a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win against Mesquita at the No. 5 line and improved to 8-3 in dual-match singles this spring. No. 42 Anna Turati (8-2) closed out the action with a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory against Decker at second singles.
After dropping the opening set and trailing 4-2 in the second, Turati won three straight games to take a 5-4 lead. Decker tied the set at 5-5, but Turati won the next two games to even the match. In the decisive third frame, Turati fell behind 3-1 and 5-4 but rallied to win the final three games and record her seventh consecutive dual-match singles win.
The Longhorns conclude their five-match home stand and continue Big 12 Conference play against No. 16 Kansas on Sunday, March 24. First serve for the Texas-Kansas match is set for 11 a.m. Central at the Texas Tennis Center.
