No. 16 Women’s Tennis tops No. 17 Florida State, 4-1

Longhorns rally to win four singles matches and improve to 6-2 on the season.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 16 University of Texas women's tennis team defeated No. 17 Florida State 4-1 on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. Texas (6-2) received singles victories from sophomore Bojana Markovic, sophomore Fernanda Labraña, senior Katie Poluta and junior Anna Turati while improving to 16-0 all-time in dual-match play at the Texas Tennis Center.
Florida State (11-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. FSU's duo of Petra Hule and Andrea Garcia posted a 6-3 win at the No. 3 line against junior Petra Granic and Poluta.
Emmanuelle Salas and Ana Oparenovic clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot against the 67th-ranked tandem of Labraña and Markovic. Junior twin sisters Anna and Bianca Turati were even (4-4) in their match at the No. 2 line against Carla Touly and Ariana Rahmanparast when the doubles point was determined.
The Longhorns went to work in singles action and gained the lead with a pair of straight-set wins. No. 96 Markovic got Texas on the board with an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory against No. 109 Nandini Das at the No. 4 spot, and No. 116 Labraña followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Rahmanparast at the No. 5 line to give the Longhorns a 2-1 advantage. Labraña improved to 6-2 in dual-match singles action this spring with her victory.
Poluta improved to a perfect 5-0 in dual-match singles this spring and increased UT's lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win against Garcia at the No. 6 line. After dropping her first set 6-1 and falling behind 3-1 to start the second set, No. 39 Anna Turati rallied to win five straight games to claim the second set (6-3). With the deciding third set tied at 1-1, Turati won four straight games to build a 5-1 cushion and closed out the victory with a 6-2 third-set victory.
The remaining two singles matches featuring No. 60 Bianca Turati at the No. 1 line and No. 54 Granic at the No. 3 spot were both in third-set action when the dual match was decided.
The Longhorns return to action when they host No. 23 Pepperdine on Saturday, March 16 (Noon Central).
