Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes led the Longhorns with a career-high 19 points.
AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes scored a career-high 19 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (16-15, 8-10 Big 12) fell 69-56 to TCU (19-12, 7-11 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center.
Hayes converted 7-of-8 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line, while also adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals in 29 minutes. Sophomore guard Matt Coleman III tallied 12 points, while freshman guard Courtney Ramey recorded 11 points, 7 rebounds (tying his career high) and 5 assists.
Dylan Osetkowski connected on a three-pointer at the 14:48 mark to give the Longhorns a 12-10 lead. An 8-0 run by Texas was highlighted by a Ramey-to-Hayes alley-oop that pushed UT's advantage to six (22-16) with 7:08 left. TCU outscored Texas 19-5 over the remainder of the half to take an eight-point cushion (35-27) into the locker room.
Hayes accounted for Texas' first seven points of the second half, but the Longhorns trailed 44-34 at the 15:51 mark. Made jumpers by Osetkowski and Coleman trimmed the deficit to 13 (67-54) with 3:19 left. UT was unable to cut any further into TCU's lead over the remainder of the contest.
