No. 7 Women’s Tennis advances to Big 12 Championship final

UT sweeps No. 26 Texas Tech in Saturday’s semifinals and will face host No. 20 Kansas in Sunday’s final.
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The No. 7 University of Texas women's tennis team registered an impressive 4-0 sweep against No. 26 Texas Tech (17-8) in the Big 12 Championship semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Pavilion Courts.
The outright Big 12 regular-season champion, Texas (18-3) won its 12th-consecutive dual match and advanced to play No. 20 Kansas in the tournament championship match on Sunday, April 21 (4 p.m. Central). Kansas, the tournament host, defeated No. 12 Oklahoma State, 4-2, in Saturday's other semifinal match.
The Longhorns grabbed an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. The No. 59-ranked pair of junior twin sisters Anna Turati and Bianca Turati registered an impressive 6-1 victory against Nell Miller and Lana Rush at first doubles. The Turati twins won their 10th-consecutive doubles match and improved to 14-2 in dual-match doubles action this spring.
Kennedy Bridgforth and Reagan Collins answered with a 6-3 win against junior Petra Granic and sophomore Bojana Markovic at third doubles. Sophomore Fernanda Labraña and freshman Tijana Spasojevic clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory against Felicity Maltby and Olivia Peet at second doubles. Tied at 5-5, Labraña and Spasojevic won the final two games to close out the match.
No. 37 Anna Turati gave the Longhorns their second point with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win against Miller at second singles. Turati won her 16th-consecutive singles match and improved to 17-2 in dual-match singles play this spring.
No. 53 Granic followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Bridgforth at third singles. Trailing 2-0 in the opening set, Granic responded by winning 12 of the next 13 games to finish out the match. She won her eighth-straight singles match and improved to 14-1 in dual-match singles action this spring.
Labraña completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Olivia Peet at fifth singles. Leading 4-3 in the second set, Labraña won back-to-back games to close out her match and the dual-match victory for the Longhorns.
