06.11.2019 | Softball
The final ranking is UT’s highest since finishing the 2013 campaign at No. 3
AUSTIN, Texas – Following a 46-17 campaign that saw Texas softball advance to the NCAA Tuscaloosa Super Regional before coming up just one win short of reaching the Women's College World Series, the Longhorns have been ranked No. 11 in the final USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll.
The ranking marks the first time that UT has been listed in the final top 25 poll by the Association since finishing at No. 3 back in 2013.
Texas started off the 2019 campaign at No. 16 in the preseason and appeared in all 16 released polls while climbing as high as No. 8 in the May 7 release.
In the first season under the guidance of head coach Mike White, the Longhorns won 46 games, the most for the program since 2013, and boasted three All-Americans in sophomore second baseman Janae Jefferson (NFCA Second Team & Softball America First Team All-American; NFCA All-Central Region Second Team & All-Big 12 Conference First Team), junior pitcher Miranda Elish (NFCA Third Team & Softball America Honorable Mention All-American; NFCA All-Central Region and All-Big 12 Conference First Team) and freshman pitcher Shealyn O'Leary (Softball America Honorable Mention All-American; Top 10 finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA National Freshman of the Year; All-Big 12 Conference Second Team). Sophomore catcher Mary Iakopo also added NFCA All-Central Region First Team honors, while joining junior outfielder Kaitlyn Washington in earning an All-Big 12 Conference Second Team accolade.
