Women's Basketball's Taylor begins FIBA U19 World Cup

The USA faces Australia on Saturday to begin preliminary round competition.
Freshman Texas women's basketball player Celeste Taylor and the United States U19 team begin play at the FIBA Women's U19 World Cup on Saturday in Bangkok, Thailand. The U.S. is attempting to capture an eighth gold medal.
Games will be streamed live online at Facebook.com/USABasketball or YouTube.com/FIBA. The medal semifinals and finals will stream on ESPN+.
The USA, No. 1 in FIBA's world youth women's rankings, opens preliminary play on July 20 [12:15 a.m. CT] against Australia, the world's No. 7-ranked junior women's team and one of the USA's biggest adversaries in international play.
The USA will continue preliminary play in a July 21 contest against No. 15 South Korea [12 a.m. CT], and after a rest day, the USA will cap preliminary games July 23 against No. 14 Hungary [12 a.m. CT].
Following the preliminary round, all teams will advance to the July 24 round of 16. The winners of the round of 16 will advance to the July 26 medal quarterfinals, and the non-advancing teams will play out for ninth-16th places. The semifinals will be played on July 27, and the gold and bronze medal games on July 28.
Taylor was part of the 2018 USA U17 World Cup Team that captured the FIBA U17 World Cup gold medal with a 7-0 record in Belarus. She averaged 6.1 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Taylor is a 5-foot-11 guard from Long Island Lutheran High School. She was the 2018-19 Gatorade New York Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She was also a McDonald's All-American and participated in the Jordan Brand Classic.
