Ariel Atkins named to 2019 WNBA All-Defensive Second Team

Atkins earns WNBA All-Defensive Team honors for the second consecutive year.
Former University of Texas women's basketball player Ariel Atkins, competing for the Washington Mystics, has been named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team for the second consecutive year, it was announced Wednesday.
Atkins, who was the seventh overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, has established herself as one of the WNBA's top perimeter defenders in two seasons with the Mystics.
In 2019, Atkins has played in 33 games with 33 starts, averaging 10.3 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game.
The Mystics have earned the top seed in the upcoming 2019 WNBA Playoffs with a 26-8 overall record.
As a rookie in 2018, Atkins was a member of the WNBA's All-Rookie Team in addition to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team.
Atkins was a three-time All-Big 12 Conference player and a four-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 teams at Texas. She played in 121 career games with 100 starts, scoring in double figures on 81 occasions. She scored 1,497 career points and finished with a career free-throw percentage of 83.1.
