TEXAS HEAD COACH KAREN ASTON
"I think if you win a home game right now it's a really good thing. I think you have to try to win as many as you can at home because the league is obviously going to be very difficult as we've already witnessed. I'm proud of how we played, in particular just after the disappointment of the West Virginia loss. You need to have a short memory and get to the next game -- and get to the prep or whatever you need to adjust. You have to move very quickly mentally, physically, everything. They asked me about what's next and I'm like, yeah, it's Kansas State. This is over and that'll be a completely different game, and our prep has to be just as good. Our intention has to be just as good, and I thought we played with a lot of intention tonight.
TEXAS TECH COACH MARLENE STOLLINGS
On how Texas' bigger positions played tonight:
"They performed great. You look at Holmes with 17 (points) and Collier with 23 (points), they were dominant. I think their physicality really bothered us and their athleticism at times really bothered us. Certainly, credit to them for winning that battle."
On what she thought about the second quarter:
"Yeah, our discipline defensively was not solid in that quarter and we weren't rebounding the ball, so we were one shot and out a lot. Then they were getting good looks on the interior. We had some mismatches on coverages and they were getting really good looks five feet from the basket and six feet from the basket. We know that they aren't going to miss those kinds of shots."
On not being able to hit open shots:
"Yeah in this conference you have to knock down open shots. Two of 15 from the three-point line is just not going to win you a lot of games. Credit again to Texas: they made us move and some of those shots were off the move. But when you're open, you have to step up and hit those at a higher percentage."
On lessons from this game:
"We have to be tougher. We have to handle physicality more and then the things we control such as rebounding. We have to be better at."
