AUSTIN, Texas — Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones tied his career high with 20 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (12-7, 2-4 Big 12) fell 69-67 to LSU (15-4, 6-0 SEC) on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center. The contest was part of the 10-game Big 12/SEC Challenge, with all 10 games played on Saturday.
Jones converted 7-of-14 field goals, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and added 2 assists and 2 steals in 23 minutes. Junior guard Matt Coleman III registered 17 points (7-15 FG) in 36 minutes, while junior forward Jericho Sims added 14 points (7-9 FG) and 7 rebounds in 38 minutes.
LSU built a 52-36 lead following a Javonte Smart field goal at the 15:08 mark. Texas went on a 22-4 run over the next 10-plus minutes to grab a 58-56 advantage after a Coleman three-pointer with 4:52 remaining. Trailing 60-58 after a Sims field goal at the 4:16 mark, the Tigers ran off six straight points to take a 64-60 lead with 49 seconds left and converted 5-of-6 free throws in the final 16 seconds to secure the win.
