Women’s Tennis signs Allura and Bella Zamarripa to National Letters of Intent

The Zamarripa twins will join the Longhorns for the 2021-22 season.
AUSTIN, Texas — Twin sisters Allura Zamarripa and Bella Zamarripa (St. Helena, Calif.) have signed National Letters of Intent to play tennis at The University of Texas, head coach Howard Joffe announced Thursday. The Zamarripa twins will be eligible as a freshman for the 2021-22 season.
"Their signing is a huge deal for me and for our program, and I can't adequately express my gratitude to Mitzi, Dave, Allura and Bella for the expression of trust and support in what Coach Taylor Fogleman and I are doing here in Austin," Joffe continued. "Bella and Allura each have the finest caliber of character, and their positive energy will add to our already strong culture. I intend to work diligently to serve both ladies' intentions, so they may reach the heights they have set for themselves. I know they will!"
The Zamarripa twins recently claimed the doubles title at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) 80k event in Tyler, Texas (Nov. 1) with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) win against the tandem of Paula Kania-Chodun and Katarzyna Piter. They returned to the court last week (Nov. 2-8) and advanced to the doubles semifinals at the ITF 100k tournament in Charleston, S.C. As a tandem, the twins have won four career ITF doubles championships.
Allura Zamarripa has a current UTR (Universal Tennis Rating of 11.14. The UTR is a global tennis player rating system intended to produce an objective, consistent and accurate index of players' skill in the game of tennis. She holds career-high WTA (Women's Tennis Association) rankings of No. 839 in singles (Aug. 5, 2019) and No. 349 in doubles (current – Nov. 9, 2020). Allura has won one career ITF singles championship, earning the title at the 15k event in Bogota, Colombia in December 2018.
"After taking the official visit and learning all about the school and culture, I knew it was the place to be when taking my tennis game to the next level," Allura Zamarripa said. "The school atmosphere was so surreal, and I couldn't have pictured myself anywhere else."
Bella Zamarripa has a current UTR (Universal Tennis Rating of 10.0. She holds career-high WTA rankings of No. 1,273 in singles (Nov. 25, 2019) and No. 347 in doubles (current – Nov. 9, 2020).
"The coaches and team, facilities and academic services at The University of Texas are unbelievable," Bella Zamarripa said. "I could see myself thriving as a student and athlete under all of UT's advisories. UT was the perfect fit for Allura and I. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of the Longhorn Nation."
