Pomajevich paces No. 1 Men’s Swimming with NCAA-best time in 200 fly

Senior Sam Pomajevich records fastest time in the nation this year in the 200-yard butterfly (1:39.19) on Saturday.
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior Sam Pomajevich recorded the fastest time in the nation this season in the 200-yard butterfly (1:39.19) to highlight the No. 1 University of Texas Men's Swimming team's action on Saturday evening during the final night of the Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Pomajevich's mark was a personal best and a NCAA 'A' cut effort that edged out Texas A&M's Shaine Casas' previous top time of 1:39.23.
Texas swept all six events on Saturday night to close out the four-day Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational. Freshman David Johnston claimed the win in the 1,650-yard freestyle (14:41.46), and freshman Carson Foster won the 200-yard backstroke (1:40.39).
Junior Daniel Krueger earned the victory in the 100-yard freestyle in a NCAA 'A' cut time of 41.48, and sophomore Jake Foster won the 200-yard breaststroke (1:54.83). UT's 'B' team closed out the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:56.87).
Meet Highlights
- Freshman David Johnston opened Saturday's finals session with a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 14:41.46. Junior Alex Zettle took second (14:45.56), freshman Ethan Heasley placed third (14:48.10), senior Parker Neri finished fourth (14:54.80) and senior JohnThomas Larson claimed fifth (14:55.18). Zettle, Heasley, Neri and Larson also registered NCAA 'B' cut efforts.
- Freshman Carson Foster earned the victory in the 200-yard backstroke (1:40.39). Sophomore Ethan Harder placed second (1:41.68) and junior Colter Carman finished third (1:44.67). All three Longhorns registered NCAA 'B' cut times.
- Junior Daniel Krueger captured an impressive win in the 100-yard freestyle in a NCAA 'A' cut time of 41.48. Junior Drew Kibler took second (41.92) and senior Luke Bowman placed third (43.22). Both Kibler and Bowman recorded NCAA 'B' cut efforts.
- Sophomore Jake Foster won the 200-yard breaststroke (1:54.83). Sophomore Paul DeGrado finished third (1:55.79), junior Charles Scheinfeld took fourth (1:55.97) and junior Halvor Borgstroem placed fifth (1:58.24). All four Longhorns registered NCAA 'B' cut times.
- Senior Sam Pomajevich claimed victory in the 200-yard butterfly in a NCAA 'A' cut time of 1:39.19. The time was a personal best and marked the fastest time in the nation this season, edging out Texas A&M's Shaine Casas (1:39.23). Pomajevich's mark also is the fourth-fastest ever by an American and ranks No. 7 all-time in the event. Sophomore Cole Crane (1:42.87), junior Andrew Koustik (1:43.14), freshman Zac Van Zandt (1:43.71), freshman Coby Carrozza (1:44.78) and sophomore Sam Artmann (1:44.95) placed second through sixth, respectively, and each recorded NCAA 'B' cut efforts.
- The Texas 'B' quartet of Bowman, Carson Foster, freshman Victor Tremblay and sophomore Trey Jackson closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:56.87).
