Brown records a career-high 18 points and three blocks as the Longhorns improve to 5-1.
AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman forward Greg Brown recorded a career-high 18 points and three blocked shots to lead No. 13/12 Texas (5-1) to a 74-53 victory against Texas State (3-2) on Wednesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Brown converted 7-of-14 field goals, including 3-of-7 from three-point range, in 22 minutes.
Junior guard Andrew Jones and junior guard Courtney Ramey each posted 11 points for the Longhorns. Senior forward Jericho Sims added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Texas jumped out to a 12-3 advantage after a Kai Jones dunk at the 15:05 mark and never trailed in the game. Texas State trimmed the margin to 14-10 following a Shelby Adams layup with 10:19 remaining, but the Longhorns responded with a 7-0 run to build a 21-10 cushion after an Andrew Jones three-pointer at the 8:58 mark.
Leading 23-18 with 5:16 left, Texas closed the half with a 10-2 spurt to take a 33-20 advantage into the break. Nine of UT's 12 first-half field goals were dunks.
The Bobcats cut the gap to 46-39 after an Isiah Small putback at the 9:46 mark. Texas answered with six straight points to increase its cushion to 52-39 following a Brown layup with 7:59 remaining. The lead did not dip into single digits the rest of the night.
Texas returns to action when it travels to Waco, Texas to face No. 2/2 Baylor on Sunday, Dec. 13. Tip is set for 2 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
