Coleman III records a team-high 11 points, while Sims pulls down a game- high 14 rebounds.
AUSTIN, Texas — Junior guard Matt Coleman III registered a team-high 11 and junior forward Jericho Sims added a game-high 14 rebounds, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (14-10, 4-7 Big 12) fell 52-45 to No. 1/1 Baylor (22-1, 11-0 Big 12) on Monday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Texas was attempting to earn its first win in program history against an AP No. 1 opponent, but the Longhorns dropped to 0-11 all-time against AP No. 1 teams.
Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones was the only Longhorn in addition to Coleman to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points. UT's defense had a solid effort in the loss, limiting the top-ranked Bears to a season-low 52 points on 34.0% field goal shooting (17-50).
Despite holding the Bears to just 22 points on 33.3% FG shooting (10-30) in the opening half, the Longhorns trailed 22-16 at the break. After Texas closed to within 29-27 on a Sims free throw at the 13:09 mark of the second half, Baylor used a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to build a 42-27 advantage. The Longhorns went on a late spurt to trim the margin to 51-45 with 45 seconds remaining, but that was as close as Texas would get the rest of the way.
