No. 4 Women’s Tennis falls 7-0 at No. 17 Pepperdine

The Longhorns return home to face No. 16 Michigan on Tuesday at the Texas Tennis Center (2 p.m. CT).
MALIBU, Calif. — The No. 4 University of Texas women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 17 Pepperdine (6-3) on Friday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Longhorns fell to 8-3 in dual-match action on the year.
The Waves grabbed a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. Pepperdine's duo of Ashley Lahey and Astrid Olsen posted a 6-1 victory on court 2 against sophomore Marta Perez Mur and junior Fernanda Labraña. Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine clinched the point with a 6-3 win on court 1 against senior twin sisters and No. 20-ranked Anna Turati and Bianca Turati. Freshman Adri Nagy and sophomore Tijana Spasojevic were one point away (leading 40-30, up 6-5) from earning a victory on court 3 against Daria Kuczer and Lisa Zaar, when the doubles point was clinched.
No. 45 Iamachkine opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court 3 against Nagy, and Olsen defeated Perez Mur by a score of 6-4, 6-4 on court 5 to extend the lead to 3-0. No. 53 Failla clinched the dual-match win for the Waves with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court 2 against No. 3 Anna Turati.
Playing all six singles matches to completion, Kuczer added a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win on court 6 over Spasojevic. No. 2 Lahey then defeated No. 26 Bianca Turati by a score of 7-5, 6-4 on court 1, and Zaar closed out the action with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Labraña on court 4.
UT returns to action when it hosts No. 16 Michigan on Tuesday, March 3. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Central at the Texas Tennis Center, and the match will be televised live by Longhorn Network.
