AUSTIN, Texas — Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones registered a team-high 18 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (14-9, 4-6 Big 12) fell 62-57 to Texas Tech (15-8, 6-4 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center. Junior guard Matt Coleman III added 17 points and tied his career high with 7 rebounds in 39 minutes.
Jones registered 16 of his 18 points in the first half. He converted 6-of-14 field goals, including 3-of-8 from three-point range, while playing a season-high 32 minutes.
The contest proved to be a tale of two halves. The Longhorns jumped out to a 16-point advantage (27-11) after a Jones three-pointer at the 4:42 mark. Texas held a 31-19 lead at halftime, as it held the Red Raiders to 39.1% FG shooting, including a 0-of-5 mark from beyond the arc, in the opening 20 minutes.
Texas Tech rallied to outscore the Longhorns by a 43-26 margin in the second half. The Red Raiders hit 12-of-22 field goals (.545) and 16-of-21 (.762) free throws, while limiting Texas to 11-of-32 (.344) from the floor, including a 2-of-11 (.182) mark from three-point range, in the final 20 minutes.
