Rowing competes in scrimmage against Chinese National Team
02.08.2020 | Rowing
Longhorns first regatta of the spring will be in San Diego on April 4-5.
WACO, Texas –Texas Rowing competed in a scrimmage with the Chinese National Team on the Brazos River Saturday morning, completing a pair of sessions as the Longhorns prepare for the Spring campaign.
No official results were recorded, however, Longhorns head coach Dave O'Neill believes the team is on track heading into the season.
"It was a good morning for us; relative speed (with the Chinese team) is where we'd expect it to be," O'Neill said. "Chinese team head coach Hartmut Buschbacher said it was beneficial for them, and it was very beneficial for us. To have some international competition means a lot and helped us quite a bit. It was a big step forward and we are focused on what's ahead."
Members of the Chinese men's and women's rowing team have been training in Central Texas during the winter months in preparation for qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The Longhorns' season officially begins April 4-5 at the historic San Diego Classic on the 2,000 meter-course on the Fiesta Bay-Crown Point Shores of Mission Bay Park in San Diego, California.
