No. 5 Men’s Basketball’s Greg Brown named one of 10 finalists for 2021 Karl Malone Award

Annual honor recognizes the top power forward in Division I men’s college basketball.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — University of Texas freshman Greg Brown is one of 10 finalists for the 2021 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday. Named after Class of 2010 Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor recognizes the top power forward in Division I men's college basketball.
Brown leads the team and ranks third in the Big 12 Conference in rebounding (8.0 rpg) and also leads the team in blocked shots (17) and ranks third in the league in blocked shots per game (1.31 bpg). He ranks fourth on the Longhorns in scoring (11.9 ppg) in 22.3 minutes per contest over his first 13 collegiate contests.
Brown has reached double figures in scoring in nine of his 13 contests and double digits in rebounds four times. He leads the team and ranks second in the Big 12 with four double-doubles.
In late February, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2021 Karl Malone Award will be presented April 9, 2021, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Bob Cousy Point Guard Award, the Jerry West Shooting Guard Award, the Julius Erving Small Forward Award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center Award, in addition to the Women's Starting Five.

Brown and the No. 5/5 Longhorns (11-3, 5-2 Big 12) return to the court when they travel to face Kentucky on Saturday, Jan. 30. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. Central (8 p.m. Eastern) at Rupp Arena, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
