No. 25 Soccer extends unbeaten run to nine with a 0-0 (2OT) tie at Baylor

Texas remains on top of the Big 12 Conference regular-season standings at 4-0-2 (2.33 points-per-match)
WACO, Texas – On Friday night in front of 1,010 fans at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field, No. 25 Texas soccer (8-3-4, 4-0-2 Big 12 Conference) and Baylor (7-3-5, 3-1-2 Big 12 Conference) battled to a 0-0 (2OT) draw as the Longhorns extended their unbeaten run to nine consecutive matches dating back to Sept. 12.
Texas Team Notes
- With 14 total points (2.33 points-per-match), Texas remains on top of the Big 12 regular-season standings just ahead of TCU (13 points/2.17 points-per-match).
- The Longhorns are unbeaten after six league matches for just the third time in program history (6-0-0 start in both 2002 & 2001).
- Texas is riding a season-best shutout streak of 370:42 dating back to Sept. 30 against TCU.
- Texas is now 1-0-4 this season in overtime matches with a win over Samford and ties against Florida, No. 19 Rice, No. 10 TCU and Baylor.
- With the tie, Texas is now unbeaten over its last nine matches (7-0-2) dating back to Sept. 12.
- Texas out-shot Baylor in the match by a total of 20-14, while the Bears led 8-4 in shots on goal and both teams tied with eight corners.
- Texas continues to lead its series over Baylor, 16-9-5, including 8-3-3 in Waco.
The Details
The first scoring chance of the match went Texas' way during the second minute as freshman forward Holly Ward crossed a ball into the middle. Racing across the box, senior forward Mackenzie McFarland tried a quick 10-yard volley from the middle, while tightly marked, only to have her shot pop up and over the bar.
Just seconds later at 2:59, freshman midfielder Lexi Missimo tried her luck from a sharp angle out on the right wing only to have her lengthy effort roll just a couple feet outside the left post.
Freshman forward Trinity Byars got into action for the Longhorns off a cross at 7:35, but her 12-yard effort from the middle of the 18 traveled straight to Baylor goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt.
The Bears managed their first shot at 8:27 as Maddie Algya bounced a long shot right into the arms of Texas fifth-year senior goalkeeper Savannah Madden.
The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth throughout the midfield for the majority of the opening half with neither team seriously threatening goal as Missimo and Baylor's Mackenzie Anthony each missed well high from distance.
Baylor registered a quality chance at 37:29 as Olivia Mack drove from the left wing in towards the top of the 18 and fired a right-footed shot. Madden was positioned perfectly to make a catch, however, to record her third save of the match.
Out of the halftime break, it was Texas with the first two scoring opportunities as Byars (49:14) and senior defender Cameron Brooks (50:48) each blasted shots from the left side of the box wide right of frame.
Hornyak tried an ambitious effort for Baylor from 28 yards out at 58:09 that even into a stiff breeze flew well over the crossbar.
The BU pressure continued at 66:08 as Ally Henderson hit a 22-yard shot over the bar and Gabby Mueller bounced a lengthy effort in on frame.
Everyone's heart skipped a beat during the 69th minute as a BU fed a dangerous cross from the right wing into the middle. Baylor's Mack was marked in a dangerous spot right in the middle of the box and got the ball tangled in her feet just enough to not get off what would have been a point-blank shot.
Back at the other end, senior midfielder Julia Grosso forced a Wandt save from the left wing at 70:23 as her 16-yard try was again right to the keeper.
The Bears came close to a breakthrough at the 74:19 mark as Ava Colberg unleashed a 21-yard blast from the top of the box that Madden leapt high to tip over the bar.
With time beginning to run short in regulation, Grosso decided to let one rip from 25+, but her 85th minute shot traveled right to Wandt for another save.
Texas managed one final chance as an 87th-minute cross from the left wing almost located Byars in the middle of the box, but the Richardson, Texas, native couldn't get off a shot.
Baylor had a chance off a corner at 93:55 as a feed into the middle dropped into the crowd. The ball bounced up in the air, but Madden raced out to make a grab and prevent any shot.
Missimo forced another Wandt stop on a long drive from outside the top of the box at 97:07.
With under 10 seconds left in the first OT, BU's Hornyak drove a shot right to Madden in the middle of the goal.
About a minute into the second extra session, McFarland crossed a ball from the right wing to Missimo inside the 18. The Southlake, Texas, product tried a shot but it was blocked away and cleared.
Texas had a huge chance develop with 7:14 remaining as a header up field dropped right into the path of a charging Byars outside the box. The rookie forward drove in and fired from 16 yards, but Baylor's Kayley Ables managed to just get a leg in the way at the last second to block the shot.
Overall in the second OT, Texas out-shot Baylor by a dominant total of 5-0, but couldn't get a shot on frame as time eventually ran out on the scoreless draw.
