AUSTIN, Texas – On Saturday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field, Texas softball (7-0) finished off a perfect fall season by rolling past both Temple College (13-0, 6 inn.) and UTSA (15-1, 5 inn.).
Over the entire fall campaign, the Longhorns offense out-scored its seven opponents by a combined total of 100-13, while posting 28 doubles, six triples and 14 HR's. As a pitching staff, four Texas hurlers combined to allow just eight earned runs over 59 innings of work for a miniscule 0.95 ERA with 73 strikeouts.

In the Circle
vs. Temple College: Junior transfer Logan Hulon allowed one hit, walked two and struck out five over 3.2 scoreless innings of work. In relief, sophomore transfer Estelle Czech permitted one hit, walked none and K'ed one in 2.1 frames.
vs. UTSA: Freshman starting pitcher Sophia Simpson (3.0 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 3 BB's, 7 K's) and junior reliever Shea O'Leary (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's) combined on a five-inning no-hitter.
The Details
vs. Temple College: Scott got the Texas offense off and running in the bottom of the first by blasting a one-out double off the wall in left. That set the stage for Parker as the Conroe, Texas, native continued her remarkable fall by hammering a RBI double to the fence in right to make it 1-0. From there, a Burke RBI triple to center and a Cantu RBI double, that dropped just inside the left-field line, boosted UT's advantage to 3-0.
The Leopards used a Texas error, a wild pitch and a groundout to move a runner as far as third in the top of the second. Hulon responded to the threat by striking out the final batter of the inning to leave one stranded.
The Burnt Orange & White utilized the long ball to add to their advantage in the bottom of the second. With Jefferson already aboard on a single up the middle, Scott kept her impressive game going by blasting a 250-foot HR off the scoreboard in center to make it 5-0.
Cantu made it 2-for-2 with two RBIs by launching a solo shot out to right center to boost the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third.
With Hulon and Czech having combined for four scoreless innings from the circle, Texas got back in business starting its half of the fourth with back-to-back Cimusz and Mya Holmes walks. Scott stepped in the box and bounced a single into the hole at second. Attempting to make a play to first, the ball was thrown away for an error allowing Cimusz to scamper home from third for a 7-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Longhorns loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a failed fielder's choice. That set the stage for Cimusz as the rookie catcher lined a grand slam over the wall in center to make it 11-0.
With a two-out time limit in effect, Cantu completed her 4-for-4, four-RBI effort by lacing a two-run double to right to finalize a 13-0 (6 inn.) win.
vs. UTSA: Texas quickly got on the board in the bottom of the first through singles from Jefferson, Parker and Whitaker. Following a Burke RBI groundout, UTSA made a huge mistake by dropping a potential inning-ending pop-up. That miscue allowed the Longhorns to add another run on the play to make it 3-0. The advantage soon expanded further to 5-0 as Cantu launched a two-run shot to left center.
After Simpson struck out the Roadrunner side in the top of the second, the Longhorns offense kept pouring it on in the bottom half. Jefferson and Scott tallied RBI doubles, while Parker added a RBI single for an 8-0 lead. Cantu and Smith later added two-run doubles to right and right-center, respectively, to make it 12-0.
UTSA managed its only base runners of the game by drawing three walks to load the bases with just one down in the top of the third. A groundout to second got the Roadrunners on the board trailing 12-1 before Simpson's seventh strikeout left two runners stranded.
Back-to-back Vanessa Quiroga and Burke singles got the Longhorns rolling again in the bottom of the third. Cantu kept her perfect day at the plate going by driving in a run on a double. Smith followed with a RBI single to left center to boost the UT advantage to 14-1.
A fourth-inning, Alyssa Popelka RBI single eventually finalized the Texas offensive output at 15 runs.
