Nation’s No. 4-ranked recruit by Tennis Recruiting will join the Longhorns for the upcoming spring 2022 semester.
AUSTIN, Texas — Vivian Ovrootsky (San Jose, Calif.) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play tennis at The University of Texas, head coach Howard Joffe announced Wednesday. Ovrootsky, the nation's current No. 4-ranked recruit by Tennis Recruiting, will join the Longhorns as a freshman for the upcoming spring 2022 semester.
"Vivian Ovrootsky's signing and consequent inclusion on our team is a major coup for the Longhorns," Joffe said. "Vivian is athletic, dedicated, driven, smart, courageous and above all else, incredibly likeable. We will pour all our energy into serving her goals on court and in every facet of her experience. I can't wait to see Vivian on the Forty Acres."
Ovrootsky, who currently trains at the Eagle Fustar Academy, has a current UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) of 10.94 and a career high of 11.04. The UTR is a global tennis player rating system intended to produce an objective, consistent and accurate index of players' skill in the game of tennis.
"I chose The University of Texas for multiple reasons," Ovrootsky said. "The city of Austin and the UT campus have beautiful scenery, and the school offers amazing academic programs. In addition, I was attracted to the strength and depth of the tennis program. I was able to watch the team practice, and I immediately knew that this was the atmosphere I wished to be in for the next four years of my life."
During the 2020 season, Ovrootsky reached the No. 1 spot nationally in Tennis Recruiting's class rankings. She captured ITF (International Tennis Federation) singles titles in San Diego in November 2020 and Irvine (Calif.) in March 2019. Ovrootsky earned an impressive 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory against UTR 11.66 Kayla Day in a UTR pro tournament in Las Vegas in May 2021. She also was the Girls 16 Easter Bowl singles champion and Girls 16 Eddie Herr doubles champion.
