Mitchell named Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week

IRVING, Texas — University of Texas junior forward Tre Mitchell has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This marks Mitchell's first career weekly league honor.
In UT's two home victories last week, Mitchell averaged 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while converting 13-of-19 field goals (.684), including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and 2-of-3 free throws in 21.6 minutes per game. During Wednesday's 62-49 victory against Northern Colorado (Nov. 17), he posted a season-best 16 points and seven rebounds while hitting 7-of-11 field goals, including 1-of-2 threes, in 21 minutes. Mitchell returned to record 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 1-of-2 threes, and a season-high eight rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes during Saturday's 79-45 win against San Jose State (Nov. 20).
No. 8/8 Texas (3-1) returns to action against California Baptist in the final game of the Abe Lemons Classic on Wednesday, Nov. 24. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the contest will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
