Hernandez wins 3-meter springboard title at USA Diving Winter Nationals

Texas freshman Hailey Hernandez won her second USA Diving championship of the week.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Texas Diving freshman Hailey Hernandez won gold in the 3-meter springboard at the USA Diving Winter Nationals on Friday inside the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center at the University of Indiana. It marked her second USA Diving championship of the week after winning the synchronized 3-meter springboard event with her partner Delaney Schnell in the second night of the championships.
Hernandez finished with a final score of 656.75 points, seven points ahead of the runner-up. She built a substantial lead during the prelim, scoring 340.95 points in the morning session to head into the final with a 34.4 point advantage.
With the victory, Hernandez has now qualified for the FINA Diving World Championships and the World University Games in both the individual and synchronized 3-meter springboard.
The Southlake, Texas native closed out her week at the nationals with three top-three performances after also placing third in the 1-meter springboard.
Bridget O'Neil scored 533.05 points in the 3-meter springboard to place seventh in the event. The sophomore finished seventh in the preliminary round with 270.35 points. O'Neill had a strong week at the Winter Nationals, earning bronze in the mixed synchro platform with her partner Noah Duperre on the opening night of the championships, then placing seventh in the in the 1-meter springboard.
The USA Diving Winter Nationals conclude on Saturday with the women's platform and the men's 1-meter springboard. The preliminary rounds will get underway at 9 a.m. CT.
