Joanne Allen-Taylor pours in a season-best 18 points to lead Texas to sixth-straight win
PRINCETON, N.J.— Senior Joanne Allen-Taylor poured in a season-high 18 points Wednesday as No. 12/12 Texas captured a hard-fought 70-53 road victory over Princeton inside the Tigers' Jadwin Gymnasium.
UT extends their winning streak to six games and improves 9-1 on the season. Princeton falls to 7-4.
Allen-Taylor finished the game shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and was a perfect 2-of-2 from behind the arc. The Houston native also contributed three rebounds and a pair of steals in the contest.
Freshman point guard Rori Harmon tallied 15 points on a 6-of-8 shooting performance and led the team on the glass with seven rebounds. She also came away with a team-high 3 steals and two assists.
Junior Aliyah Matharu posted her ninth double digit scoring effort of the season as she totaled 12 points in 23 minutes off of the bench.
After the Longhorns took a 32-21 lead in to the locker room at halftime, Princeton clawed back in the third quarter as they opened on a 10-3 run to trim the Texas lead to just four points (35-31) at the 5:20 mark. UT outscored the Tigers 35-22 the rest of the way to seal the victory.
Texas finished the game shooting 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the floor and shot 40 percent (4-of-4) from long range. Princeton outrebounded the Longhorns 41-31. Texas won the turnover battle, 21-16.
Princeton was led offensively by Abby Meyers who posted 21 points. Myers would finish with a double-double as she brought down 16 rebounds to lead the team. Ellie Mitchell finished with 10 points.
The Tigers shot 28.8 percent (19-of-66) from the field and 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from behind the arc in the game.
Texas returns to action after the Holiday on Wednesday, Dec.29, as they welcome in Alcorn State for their final nonconference tilt of the season. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. CT and will air on LHN.
Big 12 action is set to begin Jan.2 (2 p.m. CT, ESPN+) as the Longhorns travel to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State.
