COLLEGE STATION, Texas.— Another early-season road test, another impressive showing for Texas Women's Basketball.
The No.15/14-ranked Longhorns took down No.17/15 Texas A&M, 76-60, inside the Aggies' Reed Arena Sunday afternoon in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
UT runs their record to 6-1 on the season with the win. The Aggies suffer their first loss of the year and slip to 8-1.
Junior guard Aliyah Matharu turned in another impressive performance as she poured in a team-high 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting including a 5-of-9 mark from behind the arc. She also chipped in on defense with a career-best two blocks.
Freshman Rori Harmon scored 18 points and dished out a team-best 9 assists. DeYona Gaston finished with 10 points and Audrey Warren led the team on the glass with nine rebounds.
Texas finished the game shooting 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor and 53.2 percent (5-of-15) from long range. The Longhorns edged the Aggies on the boards, 37-35, and held the advantage in the turnover battle, 19-7.
A&M was led offensively by Sydnee Roby who posted 16 points. Destiny Pitts and Kayla Wells finished with 14 and 13 points respectively.
The Aggies shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the field and 20 percent (2-of-10) from behind the arc in the game.
Texas returns to the floor on Saturday, Dec.11, as they play host to Idaho in a nonconference matchup inside the Frank Erwin Center. Tip is slated for 1 p.m. CT and will air nationally on Longhorn Network.
