Softball releases its 2022 spring schedule

Longhorns are set to play 34 total games against 18 teams that reached the 2021 NCAA Field of 64
AUSTIN, Texas – Coming off a 2021 campaign that ended tantalizingly close to a spot in the annual Women's College World Series, the Texas softball program and head coach Mike White are pleased to announce their challenging 2022 spring schedule.
Official game times and TV designations will be released at a later date.
Along the way, the Longhorns will face off against five of last season's eight Women's College World Series participants in Alabama (national semifinalist), Florida State (national finalist), Oklahoma (national champion), Oklahoma State and UCLA. UT will battle six NCAA Super Regional qualifiers (Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and UCLA) and will contest 34 total games against 18 squads that earned bids to the 2021 NCAA Field of 64 (Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, Florida State, Iowa State, Louisiana, LSU, McNeese State, Miami (OH), Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas State, UCF and UCLA).
During its scheduled 56-game regular-season slate, the Burnt Orange & White will leave the "Lone Star State" six times with out-of-state trips scheduled for Fort Myers and Clearwater, Fla., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Lafayette, La., Lawrence, Kan., and Stillwater, Okla.
Texas begins its season on the road for the first time since 2015 by venturing to the FGCU Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla., to battle Clemson, Florida Gulf Coast, Boston College and Kent State over Feb. 11-13.
The Longhorns then return home to open their 2022 home campaign at Red & Charline McCombs Field by hosting a mid-week match-up against McNeese State (Feb. 16).
Another trip to "The Sunshine State" beckons over Feb. 18-20 as the Burnt Orange & White are slated to participate in the high-profile St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational against 2021 national finalist Florida State, and NCAA Tournament participants Auburn, UCLA, UCF and Notre Dame.
Following a mid-week home contest against North Texas (Feb. 23), UT welcomes in UTSA, Arizona State, Tulsa and Texas State for its annual Texas Classic over Feb. 24-27.
After hosting Sam Houston State (March 2) to start the new month, the Horns travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the first time since their 2019 NCAA Super Regional visit to participate in the Easton Crimson Classic (March 4-6) against 2021 national semifinalist Alabama and Miami (OH).
After returning home, the Longhorns will make the drive north up 1-35 to Denton for a mid-week duel against North Texas on March 9.
Up next is the Bevo Classic at McCombs Field as Drake, Minnesota and Nicholls State all make the trip to Austin for a three-day event over March 11-13.
The middle of March sees Texas travel to Lafayette, La., to match up against perennial power Louisiana (March 16), return home for a high-profile, three-game series against LSU (March 18-19), host Lamar (March 22) and then make the short drive to San Marcos, Texas, to rematch Texas State (March 23).
The Longhorns are slated to open the rugged Big 12 Conference slate on the road at Kansas (March 25-27). Addition league road series during the 2022 campaign include trips to Stillwater, Okla., to face 2021 WCWS participant Oklahoma State (April 22-24), to Lubbock, Texas, to battle Texas Tech (April 29-May 1) and to Waco, Texas, to play Baylor (May 6) as part of the two teams' annual split series.
UT will host Big 12 series against Iowa State (April 1-3), defending national champion Oklahoma (April 14-16) and Baylor (May 7-8).
Several additional home non-conference contests are also on the docket over the remainder of the regular season against Louisiana (March 30), UT Arlington (April 6) and Houston (April 20).
The postseason begins with the annual Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., over May 12-14.
The NCAA Tournament schedule gets underway at campus sites over May 19-22 with NCAA Regionals and follows with the best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals over May 26-29. The annual Women's College World Series at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., is scheduled to be contested from June 2-10.
