The Longhorns lost to No. 1 seed South Carolina, 62-34, to bring an end to the 2020-21 season.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The sixth-seeded Texas Women's Basketball team had its incredible run through the NCAA Tournament halted in the Elite Eight after a 62-34 loss to No. 1 seed South Carolina on Tuesday at the Alamodome. The Longhorns finish the 2020-21 campaign with 21-10 record (11-7 Big 12) and the program's 10th appearance in the Elite Eight-or-later.
After a stretch of some of their best shooting this season, the Longhorns' struggled to find the bottom of the net on Tuesday night. Texas made just 14-of-61 shots (23.0%) and 3-of-15 (20.%) from behind the arc.
Audrey Warren was Texas' best offensive output on a difficult shooting night, scoring a team-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Warren buried a career-high three 3-pointers to help the Longhorns continue to fight in the game, but was unable to flip the tide in Texas' favor.
Despite the loss, the 2020-21 season will remain a historic one in Texas lore with the Longhorns reaching the Elite Eight in Vic Schaefer's first season in charge. The run through the NCAA Tournament makes Schaefer just the ninth coach in Division I history to lead two different programs to the Elite Eight.
