AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Women's Basketball junior forward/center Charli Collier was named to the 2020-21 Women's National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award Presented by Wendy's, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Saturday.
Collier, a Mont Belvieu, Texas native, is averaging 21.0 points and 12.2 rebounds per game this season. She is the only Division I player averaging more than 20 points and 12 rebounds per game during the current campaign. Her 16 double-doubles are tied for the second-most by any player in the country and have helped her cement her status as an All-America candidate. On 16 occasions she has scored at least 20 points this season, crossing the 30-point mark three times as well. Her efforts on the court have helped her earn a number of other accolades this season including being named a Lisa Leslie Award Top 10 Finalist, a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year semifinalist, and a member of three Wade Trophy watch list. She has also twice been named the Big 12 Player of the Week and once the Jersey Mike's Naismith National Player of the Week.
All balloted players have been certified by their university to meet or exceed the qualifications for the Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden when the Award was established. The qualifications include: candidates must exhibit strength of character, both on and off the court; candidates must be full-time students in an accredited NCAA college or university; candidates must be making progress toward graduation and have a cumulative 2.00 grade point average since enrolling in their school; candidates must contribute to team effort; candidates must excel in both offense and defense; and candidates should be considered on their performance over the course of the entire season.
Voting will take place from March 16-23, and voters take into consideration a player's entire season of play, as well as the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The finalists for the 2021 Wooden Award presented by Wendy's will be announced on March 26.
