No. 2 Women’s Tennis earns 7-0 sweep at K-State

The Longhorns improve to 20-1 on the year, including a perfect 7-0 in Big 12 Conference play.
MANHATTAN, Kan. — The No. 2 University of Texas women's tennis team posted a 7-0 sweep at Kansas State (7-9, 2-5 Big 12) in a Big 12 Conference match on Sunday afternoon at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. The Longhorns won their 13th consecutive dual match and improved to 20-1 on the season, including a perfect 7-0 mark in Big 12 play.
With the victory, Texas extended its streak of consecutive Big 12 regular-season dual match wins to 29. The Longhorns have not dropped a conference regular-season contest since the 2017 season. UT has now recorded 14 sweeps in its first 20 dual-match victories this season, including five of its first seven Big 12 matches.
Texas took a 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point for the 20th time in its first 21 dual matches. The tandem of senior Marta Perez Mur and freshman Charlotte Chavatipon claimed a dominant 6-0 win on court 3 against Margot Decker and Anna Turco.
The No. 7-ranked freshman duo of Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court 1 over Karine-Marion Job and Maria Linares. Collins and Sun rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win three straight games and build a 3-2 advantage. After Job and Linares tied the set at 3-3, Collins and Sun rattled off three straight games to close out the match and move to 13-2 in dual-match doubles play this spring.
Freshman Malaika Rapolu opened singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court 6 against Turco. Rapolu improved to 20-2 overall in singles this season, including a 13-1 mark in dual-match play.
No. 81 Chavatipon followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court 3 over Rosanna Maffei. She improved to 19-1 in singles overall this season, including a 16-1 mark in dual-match play. No. 18 senior Anna Turati clinched the overall dual-match win with her 6-0, 6-3 victory on court 1 against Job and moved to 16-3 in dual-match singles play this year.
Playing out the remaining three singles matches, No. 56 Collins claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court 4 over Lilla Barzo and improved to 12-2 in dual-match singles action. No. 72 Sun added a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win on court 2 against Linares to move to 14-2 in dual-match singles action.
Senior Fernanda Labraña closed out Sunday's sweep with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court 5 over Ioana Gheorghita to move to 19-2 in singles overall this year, including a 12-1 record in dual-match play.
UT returns to action when it travels to face No. 29 Texas Tech in a Big 12 Conference match on Friday, April 16. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Central at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock.
