The junior utility player hit .400 overall (6-for-15) last week with two doubles and a team-best eight RBIs
AUSTIN, Texas – Helping power No. 7/12 Texas softball (35-6, 9-3 Big 12 Conference) to a 4-0 week against Texas State and Kansas has led to honors as junior utility player Lauren Burke has been selected as the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for April 27.
This marks Burke's second career Big 12 weekly honor (other was on March 3, 2020) and the second of the month for the Longhorns after a previous nod for sophomore Shea O'Leary as the Big 12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week back on April 6.
The Eugene, Ore., native batted at a .400 (6-for-15) overall clip last week with two doubles and eight RBIs, while also hitting safely in all four contests. During a three-game, weekend league series sweep of Kansas, Burke went 5-for-11 with all eight of her total RBIs. She also managed to knock in at least two runs during each of the three match-ups against the Jayhawks. Included was arguably her finest performance of the year as she went 3-for-4 during Sunday's 10-8 finale victory with a double and a career-high-tying four RBIs.
Texas returns to action this weekend at Red & Charline McCombs Field by hosting No. 11/9 Oklahoma State (36-5, 11-1 Big 12 Conference) in a high-profile, three-game league series that kicks off on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT live on Longhorn Network.
