• BEARD RETURNS TO LUBBOCK: Tuesday's game marks the return of Chris Beard to the United Supermarkets Arena. Beard served as head coach at Texas Tech for five years and spent another 10 seasons in Lubbock as an assistant coach. He led the Red Raiders to a 112-55 mark in his five years as head coach, including runs to the Elite Eight in 2018 and the NCAA Championship Game in 2019.
• DEFENSE WINS: Texas is a perfect 16-0 this year when holding its opponent below 60 points. The Longhorns lead the nation (through games of Jan. 30) in scoring defense (54.5 ppg allowed). UT limited No. 18/20 Tennessee to 51 points on 35.8-percent FG shooting (19-53), including a 5-of-18 mark (.278) from three-point range, in Saturday's win.
