Alonzo & Ramos finish as top performers again for Cross Country in Virginia

Texas travels to Lubbock in two weeks for the Big 12 Cross Country Championships.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Texas men's and women's Cross Country teams competed in their fourth meet of the season at the 2023 Panorama Farms Invitational on Saturday morning.
The men's third-place finish of 102 points was led by sophomore Isaac Alonzo's seventh-place finish in the 8K with a personal-best time of 23:21.2. Senior Haftu Knight was just behind in eighth finishing with another personal best at 23:24.6.

Sophomore Rodger Rivera claimed the third new personal best of the day for Texas with his 13th-place finish at 23:35.2, followed by Cruz Gomez who finished just over 24 minutes at 24:05.2.
Sophomore Abraham Avila-Martinez was the fourth finisher for Texas at 24:06.9. Hudson Heikkinen's 51-second PR in the 8K was the biggest improvement of the day, finishing with a time of 24:21.6, while fellow freshman Nathanael Berhane closed out the scoring with an 11-second PB at 24:39.8.
On the women's side, Beth Ramos finished as the top performer for Texas for the eighth-straight competition. The 2021 NCAA Championships competitor finished 16th with a time of 17:13.6 in the 5K.

Sophomore Eva Jess competed in her first collegiate 5K and finished with a time of 17:43.5 to score 43 points for Texas. Valery Tobias later shed over a minute and 14 seconds off her previous 5K best with a time of 17:51.3 as the third finisher for the Horns.
Freshman Elizabeth Pickett also competed in her first collegiate 5K, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:56.9. Junior Kelsie Vicknair later scored 66 points for Texas with her time of 18:03.1 in her first-ever 5K, while senior Alyssa Duhart finished 17 seconds later at 18:20.6.
Freshman Katarzyna Kwiatkowski closed out the scoring with her time of 18:21.7.
Texas women finished ninth with 235 points.
