Women’s Tennis earns pair of wins on day one at H-E-B Invite

Ovrootsky records a ranked victory in singles and teams with Zein to post one doubles win on Friday.
WACO, Texas — University of Texas Women's Tennis sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky earned a singles victory and teamed with graduate Marlee Zein to post a win in doubles to highlight the opening day of the H-E-B Invite at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
In the morning singles session, Ovrootsky claimed a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory over No. 115 Olivia Peet of Texas Tech. No. 59 Zein dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 decision to No. 67 Avelina Sayfetdinova of Texas Tech.
In the afternoon doubles session, the tandem of Zein and Ovrootsky registered a 6-3 win against Tennessee's duo of Elza Tomase and Lauren Anzalotta.
The tournament features competition in both singles and doubles. Play continues at the H-E-B Invite on Saturday, Oct. 8 with doubles play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Central followed by singles matches at 10 a.m. Central. Saturday's play also will include an afternoon session beginning at 1 p.m. Central. The tournament concludes with a morning session only on Sunday, Oct. 9.
