Men's & Women's Cross Country advance to NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Both the men's and women's cross country programs finished second at the NCAA South Central Regionals to advance to the NCAA Championships.
The women began the day scoring 102 points to advance to NCAAs for the first time since 2019. The Longhorns qualified in 2020 but the meet was canceled due to COVID-19.

Beth Ramos and Isabel Hebner earned All-Conference honors with their top-10 finishes to lead Texas on Friday morning. Ramos finished seventh to match her performance in 2021 and finished with a time of 20:36.1 in the 6K. Hebner set a personal-best time of 20:49.6 in her first cross country race of the season.
Monica Hebner finished just outside the All-Conference awards in 26th with her personal-best time of 21:16.3. Sophomore Eva Jess was the fourth finisher for the Longhorns in 28th with her time of 21:18.5.
Senior Valery Tobias set a 38-second personal best with her time of 21:19.4 and finished in 31st-place. Junior Alyssa Duhart was next in 73rd with her time of 22:17.8, shedding 35 seconds off her previous best time. Kelsie Vicknair was the final Longhorn to finish with her time of 23:02.5.
The men's second-place finish of 55 points earned them an automatic spot at nationals for the sixth-straight season. Isaac Alonzo was the runner-up in the men's 10K with over a two-minute personal best at 30:20.8. Haftu Knight, the 2021 South Central Region champion, finished fifth with a time of 30:32.0.

Rodger Rivera and Abraham Avila-Martinez finished in 12th and 13th, respectively, while Emmanuel Sgouros finished 23rd with his time of 31:30.3. The five Longhorns all earned All-Conference honors for their top 25 finishes.
Cruz Gomez and Hudson Heikkinen closed out the competitors for the Longhorns in their first 10K of the season.
Both teams will travel to Stillwater, Okla., on Nov. 18 for the NCAA Championships.
