No. 22/18 Women’s Basketball falls against RV South Florida, 70-65

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 22/18 Texas women's basketball team held RV South Florida to 28 second half points, but couldn't overcome a slow start and fell 70-65 to the Bulls on Friday at Moody Center.
Four players scored in double-figures for Texas, led by a season-high 14 points from DeYona Gaston. Shaylee Gonzales recorded her first double-double as a Longhorn with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Aaliyah Moore tallied 13 points and eight rebounds and Rori Harmon scored 13 for Texas.
Sonya Morris forced a South Florida turnover with a steal to open the second quarter and took a charge on the next USF possession. That fueled the Longhorns to score the first five points of the quarter and take a 16-10 lead.
The Bulls scored 15 of the next 17 points of the game and jumped out to a 25-18 lead. Sammie Puisis made four 3-point field goals in the first half for the Bulls, who led 42-33 at halftime.
Texas opened the second half with a 9-3 run and got within three at 45-42. Deyona Gaston scored four of her 14 points in the run.
Texas trailed 56-49 to open the fourth quarter, but scored the first eight points of the quarter and took a 57-56 lead on a Gonzales steal and score. The Longhorns led 63-62 on a Gaston layup, but South Florida scored back-to-back baskets to take a three points lead and hold on for the victory.
