AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas Football letterwinners Quandre Diggs (2011-14), Devin Duvernay (2016-19) and Justin Tucker (2008-11) were selected to the 2023 NFL Pro Bowl on Wednesday. Diggs, a defensive back, currently plays for the Seattle Seahawks, while Tucker, a kicker, is with the Baltimore Ravens. Both were selected as starters for their respective conferences.
Tucker's selection marks the sixth of his career, second-most in UT history and trailing only Earl Thomas' seven selections. He was selected for the fourth straight year, while Diggs' selection marks the third of his career and the third consecutive year in which he was selected to start and Duvernay was selected as a return specialist for the second year in a row. Texas has had at least one player selected to compete in the NFL Pro Bowl in the last 22 seasons, the longest streak in school history. The Longhorns have had at least two selections in each of the last five seasons. In total, the Longhorns have had 45 different Pro Bowlers representing 24 different teams who have made a total of 116 appearances.
Tucker, an Austin native, played in all 52 games during his four seasons at UT. He made 40-of-48 (83.3%) field goal attempts and was 71-for-71 on PAT attempts to log 191 career points. His .833 field goal percentage is tied for the second-best mark in school history. A 2011 second-team All-Big 12 selection, Tucker's career highlight came during his senior season when he made the game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired at Texas A&M, the sixth game-winning last-second field goal in school history at the time. Tucker was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Ravens in 2012. On the year, he has made the second-most field goals in the league (29) and has an 85.3% success rate. Tucker hit a game-winning 43-yard field goal to beat the Bengals as time expired in Week 5, after hitting from 58, 37 and 25 yards earlier in the game. He has missed only one field goal from under 50 yards this season, going 22-of-23. He is currently the most accurate kicker in NFL history (355-of-392; 90.56%) and had a record-setting 66-yard game-winning field goal in Detroit last season.
At Texas, Diggs, an Angleton, Texas native, was a four-year starter who ended his career tied for ninth on the UT all-time interceptions list (11) with Mossy Cade (1981-83) and William Graham (1979-81). His 37 career pass breakups also tied for ninth with Cade on the school's all-time list. Diggs was a three-time All-Big 12 selection (2011, 2013-14) and started 48 of his final 49 games. He did not miss a game in his career on the Forty Acres. Diggs played in 52 total games (49 starts) during his time at Texas and was a candidate for the Chuck Bednarik, Bronko Nagurski and Jim Thorpe awards throughout his collegiate career. He is currently in his ninth NFL season, and fourth with the Seattle Seahawks. This season, he has registered 65 total tackles (38 solo), two interceptions, five passes defended and one forced fumble in 14 starts. Diggs is tied for the fifth-most interceptions in the NFL since 2019, and with one more this season, he would be the only player to record at least three interceptions in each of the past six seasons.
Duvernay, a native of Sachse, Texas, played in all 52 games and made 30 starts during his four-year career at UT. He finished his career with 176 receptions (No. 8 in school history) for 2,468 yards (No. 8) and 16 touchdowns (No. 6). Duvernay also had eight 100-yard games in his career, the sixth-most by a Longhorn all time. Seven of his 100-yard outings occurred during his historic 2019 campaign, tying Shipley (2009) and Wane McGarity (1998) for the school's single-season record. In that 2019 season, he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors for the first time in his career after catching 106 passes for 1,386 yards and nine touchdowns out of the slot. His 106 receptions and 1,386 receiving yards both rank as the second-most in school history. He was only the third Longhorn to record at least 100 receptions in a single season (Kwame Cavil, 1999; Jordan Shipley, 2009), and the first to catch at least six passes in the first 12 games of a season since Cavil in 1999. Duvernay was selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Duvernay tops the AFC with a kickoff return average of 25.5 yards per return and he has one of the just two kickoff returns for a touchdown – a 103-yard return to open the game against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. His 13.1 yards per punt return ranks No. 2 in the NFL (minimum 20 attempts) behind New England's Marcus Jones and he has the most 20+ yard punt returns. Unfortunately, he suffered a foot injury last week in practice has been on injured reserve.
Reimagined for 2023, the Pro Bowl Games in Las Vegas will feature a new format that spotlights NFL Flag Football and a week-long celebration of players skills, with players showcasing their football and non-football skills in unique competitions. The week will culminate on Sunday, February 5 with an AFC vs. NFC flag football game at Allegiant Stadium. The events will be televised from noon – 5 p.m. CT on ESPN and ABC.
