RV Women’s Basketball wins sixth straight, tops TAMUC 96-53

Six Texas players scored in double-figures in the win over the Lions.
AUSTIN, Texas — All-American Rori Harmon scored a season-high 15 points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed six rebounds and five others scored in double-figures as the Texas women's basketball team finished non-conference action with a 96-53 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday night at Moody Center.
Harmon played only 26 minutes, sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Khadija Faye scored in double-figures for the fourth time in her last five games with 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. DeYona Gaston and Sonya Morris each tallied 12 points and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda registered 11 points and five rebounds. Shaylee Gonzales added 10 points for Texas.
Texas led 50-24 at halftime and outscored TAMUC 34-14 in the third quarter on the way to the victory.
Up next the Longhorns open Big 12 play against Kansas State on Saturday Dec. 31 at 2:00 pm CT at Moody Center.
Game Notes
• Texas held TAMUC to nine points in the first quarter, which marked the 12th time this season the Longhorns have held an opponent to single digits in a quarter.
• The Longhorns closed the half on a 9-0 run and led 50-24 at halftime. Texas made their last four field goals of the half and held TAMUC scoreless for the final 2:29 of the half.
• Texas tallied a season low six turnovers.
• The Longhorns forced 20 turnovers. In the last three games Texas has forced 83 turnovers and held an 89-14 advantage in points off turnovers.
• DeYona Gaston scored 12 points and has scored in double-figures in six of her last seven games.
• The Longhorn defense limited TAMUC to 36.2 percent shooting (21-58) from the field.
• Texas outscored TAMUC 60-26 in points in the paint. For the season the Longhorns are outscoring opponents in the paint, 530-292.
• The Longhorns outrebounded TAMUC 52-35 and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds. They converted those 20 offensive rebounds into a 25-3 advantage in second chance points.
• Texas tallied a season-high 25 assists for the game. It is their fourth game of the season with 20 or more assists.
• The Longhorn defense recorded 10 steals and nine blocked shots.
