AUSTIN, Texas — Senior Andrew Jones recorded a game-high 20 points, but No. 20/20 Texas (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) fell 61-55 against No. 11/11 Texas Tech (21-6, 10-4 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon before a sellout crowd at the Frank Erwin Center. The defeat snapped a three-game home winning streak against ranked teams by the Longhorns, as UT had defeated No. 18/20 Tennessee, No. 20/22 Iowa State and No. 8/8 Kansas.

Jones was the lone Texas player to reach double figures in scoring. Senior Christian Bishop added a season-high 11 rebounds (five offensive) and season-high three blocked shots in a season-best 31 minutes.
A back-and-forth first half featured seven lead changes and six ties, and neither team led by more than six points. A Jones four-point play at the 16:48 mark gave the Longhorns an early 6-2 advantage, but the Red Raiders scored seven straight points to grab a 9-6 lead following a Kevin Obanor free throw with 14:42 left.
Tied at 22-22 after an Obanor three-pointer at the 3:55 mark, the Longhorns used six straight free throws to build a 28-22 cushion with 3:01 remaining. Texas Tech scored the half's final six points to even the score (28-28) at the break.
The Red Raiders scored the opening seven points of the second half and grabbed a 35-28 advantage following an Adonis Arms three-pointer at the 14:56 mark. UT responded with back-to-back threes from Brock Cunningham and Jase Febres to trim the margin to 35-34 with 14:32 left.
After a Timmy Allen jumper cut the lead to 50-46 at the 5:37 mark, the Red Raiders scored six straight points to build a 56-46 cushion following a pair of Charles Nadolny free throws with 3:38 remaining. Texas used a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to cut the deficit to 56-55 on a Jones three-pointer at the 1:36 mark. Texas Tech sealed its victory with five free throws over the final 70 seconds.
Texas returns to action when it hosts TCU on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Tip is set for 6 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
