Rori Harmon leads the way with 19 points as the Longhorns secure a road victory over the Mountaineers
MORGANTOWN, W. VA. — Rori Harmon registered a game-high 19 points Sunday afternoon as No. 14/14 Texas notched a 67-58 road victory over West Virginia inside the Mountaineers' WVU Coliseum.
With the win, the Longhorns run their record to 19-6 overall on the season with a 9-5 mark in Big 12 competition and sweep the regular season series with WVU.
West Virginia slides to 11-13, 4-10 with the loss.
Both teams traded blows early on resulting in a first quarter that featured nine lead changes and eight ties.
Texas outscored West Virginia 22-13 in the second quarter to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Longhorns held steady with a 31-30 second half to secure the 9-point victory.
Harmon finished the game 6-of-13 from the floor including a 7-of-7 performance at the charity stripe. She also led the team on the glass with eight rebounds and dished out a team-best seven assists.
DeYona Gaston tallied 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Audrey Warren also finished in double figures with 11 points on 3-of-9 from the floor and went 5-of-7 at the line.
Joanne Allen-Taylor, Shay Holle and Aliyah Matharu added eight points, respectively.
Texas forced 17 West Virginia turnovers in the game, which led to 17 points. Texas committed 13 turnovers on the other end.
UT held a 34-26 rebounding advantage in the contest and controlled the paint outscoring WVU, 44-36.
The Longhorns finished the game shooting 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field and 86.4 percent (19-of-22) from the free throw line.
West Virginia finished the game shooting 49.9 precent (23-of-49) from the field with a 64.3 percent (9-of-14) mark from the charity stripe.
The Mountaineers were led offensively by Esmery Martinez who finished with 13 points. Madisen Smith added 10 points.
The Longhorns return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 23, as they travel to Kansas State for a Big 12 clash with the Wildcats. Tip is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT and will air nationally on ESPN +.
