Longhorn point guard collects fourth FOTW honor of the season
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas freshman point guard Rori Harmon has been named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This marks Harmon's fourth weekly league honor of the season, the most among Big 12 freshman this year.
The Houston native had a dominant week on the hardwood as the Longhorns captured a pair of victories over No. 6/5 Iowa State and West Virginia.
Harmon averaged a team-best 19.5 points over the two-game stretch shooting at a sparkling 55.6 percent (15-of-27) mark from the field. Harmon also led the team on the glass averaging 7.0 rebounds for the week to go along with 16 total assists and nine steals.
In Wednesday's 73-48 rout of the Cyclones at home, Harmon paced the offense with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting including a 2-of-3 mark from behind the arc to go along with nine assists and six steals. Harmon became just the seventh freshman in school history to eclipse the 100 assist mark for a season in the victory.
As an encore in Sunday's 67-58 victory at West Virginia, she tallied a team-high 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while finishing a perfect 7-of-7 at the charity stripe. On the season, Harmon ranks No.5 among NCAA Division I freshman at 4.6 assists per game. She leads the Big 12 Conference in steals with 63.
The Longhorns back in action this Wednesday (6:30 p.m. CT, ESPN+) as they travel to Kansas State to take on the Wildcats.
