Texas point guard is first freshman in program history to receive AP All-America recognition
AUSTIN, Texas — The accolades continue to roll in for Texas freshman point guard Rori Harmon, as she was named All-America Honorable Mention by the Associated (AP) on Wednesday.
Harmon is the second AP All-American in the Vic Schaefer era at UT, the sixth player in program history, and first Longhorn freshman to earn All-America status from the AP.
The Houston native was one of only three freshman in the country to receive AP All-America status joining DePaul's Aneesah Morrow (Second Team) and Notre Dame's Olivia Miles (Honorable Mention).
In addition to her AP All-America honor, Harmon was named the 2022 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team, All-Defensive Team and All-Freshman Team.
Harmon was also named th Most Outstanding Player of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship this past weekend after a string of spectacular performances in UT's Tournament Championship run. She averaged a team-high 22 points per game shooting 51.2 percent from the field in helping the Longhorns capture their first Big 12 Tournament Crown since 2003.
Harmon is averaging 11.5 points per game this season and leads the Big 12 steals with 81. She ranks No. 4 in the league and No.5 among NCAA Division I Freshman in assists averaging 4.8 per contest.
The Longhorns will make their 34th overall NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend as a No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Utah, No. 11 Arkansas and No. 15 Fairfield in the First & Second Rounds inside the Frank Erwin Center.
Texas will square off with Fairfield in their first round matchup on Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m. Central. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN 2.
