No. 6 Women’s Tennis wins 7-0 at West Virginia

The Longhorns win their fifth-straight match to move to 3-0 in Big 12 Conference play and 12-3 overall this year.
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The No. 6 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (12-3, 2-0 Big 12) posted a 7-0 sweep at West Virginia (7-8, 0-1 Big 12) on Friday afternoon at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts. The Longhorns earned their fifth-straight victory and extended their win streak in Big 12 Conference regular-season dual matches to 34, dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Texas grabbed a 1-0 advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Sophomore Peyton Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa posted a 6-2 win on court 2 against Momoko Nagato and Kendall Kovick and improved to 4-0 in dual-match doubles play this spring.
The No. 50-ranked duo of sophomores Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavatipon clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court 1 over Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang. Collins and Chavatipon moved to 6-2 overall in doubles this year, but this marked the tandem's first time this spring playing together in a dual match. The freshman pair of Sabina Zeynalova and Bella Zamarripa, playing together for the first time at Texas, added a 6-1 win on court 3 against Anastasia Bovolskaia and Tatiana Lipatova.
Chavatipon opened singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court 4 over Lipatova and improved to 12-8 overall in singles this year, including an 8-6 mark in dual-match play. No. 38 Collins followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win on court 2 against Bovolskaia to move to 19-7 in singles overall, including a 7-4 record in dual-match action.
No. 106 Zeynalova clinched the overall dual-match victory for the Longhorns with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court 3 over Chang. Zeynalova improved to a perfect 12-0 in dual-match singles play this spring.
Playing out the remaining singles matches, sophomore No. 95 Malaika Rapolu earned a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win on court 5 against Bossi. Rapolu moved to 13-6 overall in singles this season, including a 6-2 mark in dual-match action. Allura Zamarripa added a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court 6 over Michaela Kucharova to improve to a perfect 3-0 in dual-match singles play this spring.
No. 7 Stearns finished off the sweep by rallying for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 on court 1 against Kovick. Stearns improved to 14-1 overall in singles this season, including an 11-1 mark in dual-match action.
The Longhorns are back on the courts to face No. 20 Iowa State on Sunday, March 20. First serve is set for 11 a.m. Central in Ames, Iowa.
