No. 6 Women’s Tennis wins 6-1 at No. 20 Iowa State

The Longhorns win their sixth-straight match to move to 4-0 in Big 12 play and 13-3 overall this year.
AMES, Iowa — The No. 6 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (13-3, 4-0 Big 12) posted a 6-1 victory at No. 20 Iowa State (11-2, 0-2 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon at the Ames High School Courts. The Longhorns claimed their sixth-straight win and extended their win streak in Big 12 Conference regular-season dual matches to 35, dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. The No. 50-ranked tandem of sophomores Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavatipon posted a 6-2 victory on court 1 against Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh. Tied at 2-2, Collins and Chavatipon won four straight games to close out the match and improve to 2-0 in dual-match play this spring.
The duo of sophomore Peyton Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa clinched the doubles point with an impressive 6-2 win on court 2 over the No. 55-ranked pair of Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova. This match was tied at 2-2 as well, before Stearns and Zamarripa finished their victory by claiming the last four games to move to 5-0 in dual-match action.
Allura Zamarripa opened singles play with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory on court 6 against Hsieh and improved to a perfect 4-0 in dual-match play this spring. No. 7 Stearns followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court 1 over No. 67 Naklo to give the Longhorns a 3-0 advantage. Stearns moved to 15-1 overall in singles play this season, including a 12-1 mark in dual-match action.
The Cyclones got on the board after Chie Kezuka posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court 5 over freshman Vivian Ovrootsky. Freshman No. 106 Sabina Zeynalova clinched the overall dual-match victory for the Longhorns with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court 3 over Kadleckova. Zeynalova improved to a perfect 13-0 in dual-match singles play this spring.
Playing out the remaining singles matches, Chavatipon claimed a 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 victory on court 4 against Anna Supapitch Kuearum to move to 13-8 overall in singles this season, including a 9-6 mark in dual-match action. No. 38 Collins closed out the match by rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win on court 2 over Ange Oby Kajuru to improve to 20-7 in singles overall, including an 8-4 record in dual-match play this spring.
The Longhorns return action when they travel to face No. 9 Oklahoma State on Friday, March 25. First serve is set for 5 p.m. Central in Stillwater, Okla.
