No. 6 Women’s Tennis wins 4-1 at No. 11 Oklahoma State

The Longhorns earn their seventh-straight victory to move to 5-0 in Big 12 play and 14-3 overall this year.
STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 6 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (14-3, 5-0 Big 12) posted a 4-1 victory at No. 11 Oklahoma State (11-3, 2-1 Big 12) on Friday evening at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The Longhorns claimed their seventh-straight victory and extended their win streak in Big 12 Conference regular-season dual matches to 36, dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Texas grabbed a 1-0 advantage by quickly winning the doubles point. The No. 77-ranked tandem of sophomore Peyton Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa earned an impressive 6-2 victory on court 1 against the No. 14-ranked duo of Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto. Tied at 1-1, Stearns and Zamarripa won four-straight games to build a 5-1 cushion and cruised to the 6-2 win to improve to 6-0 in dual-match doubles play this spring.
The freshman pair of Vivian Ovrootsky and Sabina Zeynalova clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court 3 over Alana Wolfberg and Oona Orpana. Trailing 2-0, Ovrootsky and Zeynalova rallied to win five-straight games to take a 5-2 advantage. After Wolfberg and Orpana held serve to trim the margin to 5-3, Ovrootsky and Zeynalova held on a deuce point to close out the match and move to 2-0 in dual-match doubles action.
Ovrootsky opened singles play with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory on court 4 against No. 104 Orpana. Tied at 2-2 in the first set, Ovrootsky won three-straight games to build a 5-2 cushion. After Orpana broke Ovrootsky to pull to within 5-3, Ovrootsky responded with a service break on deuce point to close out the first-set win. She then earned a shutout in the second set to move to 8-4 in dual-match singles action this spring.
Sophomore No. 50 Kylie Collins followed with an impressive 6-4, 6-1 win on court 2 over No. 30 Mhai Sawangkaew to give the Longhorns a 3-0 lead. Sawangkaew jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set, but Collins rallied to win 11 of the next 12 games to finish out her victory and improve to 21-7 overall in singles, including a 9-4 mark in dual-match play.
Oklahoma State got on the board after Miyamoto claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court 5 against sophomore No. 99 Malaika Rapolu.
No. 5 Stearns then clinched the overall dual-match win for the Longhorns with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 victory on court 1 over No. 42 Rioux. Tied at 4-4 in the opening set, Stearns held serve and then broke Rioux to close out the 6-4 first-set win. Tied at 2-2 in the third set, Stearns held serve and broke Rioux to gain a 4-2 cushion. Stearns held serve again with a winner on a deuce point to build a 5-2 lead. After Rioux held serve to trim the margin to 5-3, Stearns closed out the victory with an ace on match point and moved to 16-1 overall in singles, including a 13-1 mark in dual-match action.
The remaining pair of singles matches featuring No. 75 Zeynalova (court 3) and Allura Zamarripa (court 6) were stopped when Stearns closed out her win.
The Longhorns travel to face No. 3 Oklahoma on Sunday, March 27. First serve is set for 12 p.m. Central in Norman, Okla.
