Men’s Swimming and Diving sweeps Big 12 Awards

Longhorn’s record eighth consecutive sweep of the league’s awards.
IRVING, Texas – Texas Men's Swimming and Diving recorded a clean sweep of the 2021-22 Big 12 Swimming and Diving of the Year awards, the conference office announced on Thursday. It marked the eighth consecutive sweep of the awards and the 16th time in program history. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Senior Drew Kibler was named the Big 12 Men's Swimmer of the Year for the second-straight year, and fifth-year senior Cameron Auchinachie was named the Men's Newcomer of the Year. Junior Andrew Harness captured the Big 12 Men's Diver of the Year honor. Eddie Reese was tabbed the Big 12 Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, and Matt Scoggin received Big 12 Men's Diving Coach of the Year recognition.
Kibler won three national crowns at the NCAA Championship meet, winning the 200 free and swimming the opening leg of the title-winning 400 free relay and 800 free relay. Kibler also helped the Longhorns to a third-place finish in the 200 free relay and added a pair of sixth-place results in the 50 free and 100 free. At the Big 12 Championship meet, Kibler won the conference title in the 200 free and helped the Longhorns to victories in the 400 free relay and 800 free relay.
Auchinachie joined Kibler on the NCAA Champion 400 free relay squad and also earned All-American honors in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. The Binghamton, N. Y. native also added honorable mention All-American honors in the 100 free and 100 back. At the conference championship meet, he won the 100 back title and was part of the Longhorns' victories in the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
Harness previously claimed Big 12 Men's Diver of the Meet honors at the Big 12 Championship. He won both the 3-meter and platform at the conference meet and brought home silver on the 1-meter. A native of Villa Park, Calif., Harness closed out the season with an Honorable Mention All-America performance on the platform at the NCAA Championships.
Reese earned Big 12 Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors for the 17th-straight year and 20th time in his career. Now in his 44th season as head coach, Reese recorded his 13th NCAA runner-up finish at this year's NCAA Championship, his 28th top-two national showing.
Scoggin swept the Big 12 Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year accolades for the seventh consecutive year and 12th time in his career. He earned Big 12 Men's Diving Coach of the Year honors for the 11th-consecutive year and 17th time overall. UT's combined men's and women's divers collected five top-eight finishes and contributed a combined 101 points to the team standings.
