No. 5 Women’s Tennis posts 4-0 sweep at No. 32 UCF

The Longhorns move to 9-3 in dual-match play with impressive road victory.
LAKE NONA, Fla. — The No. 5 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (9-3) earned an impressive 4-0 sweep at No. 32 UCF (7-6) on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus. The match marked a return to the site where the Longhorns claimed the 2021 NCAA Championship.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Paired together for the first time this season, the duo of sophomore Peyton Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa claimed a 6-2 victory on court 2 against Sophia Biolay and Nandini Sharma. Tied at 1-1, Stearns and Zamarripa held serve on a deuce point, claimed a service break and held serve again to build a 4-1 cushion. After Biolay and Sharma held serve to cut the margin to 4-2, Stearns and Zamarripa held and earned another break to close out the match.
Sophomore Charlotte Chavatipon and freshman Vivian Ovrootsky clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court 3 over Noel Saidenova and Jaleesa Leslie. Tied at 2-2, Chavatipon and Ovrootsky ran off three straight games to build a 5-2 advantage. After Saidenova and Leslie held to trim the lead to 5-3, Chavatipon and Ovrootsky held to finish out the victory and improve to 3-0 in dual-match doubles action this spring.
Chavatipon pushed UT's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 0-0 (retire) victory on court 4 over Leslie. Tied at 3-3 in the opening set, Chavatipon won three consecutive games to close out the first-set win before Leslie retired prior to the start of the second set.
Freshman Sabina Zeynalova added a 6-1, 6-3 win on court 3 against No. 114 Marie Mattel. Tied at 2-2 in her second set, Zeynalova broke Mattel before holding serve to build a 4-2 advantage. After Mattel held to trim the lead to 4-3, Zeynalova held serve on a deuce point and broke Mattel to close out the match and improve to 9-0 in dual-match singles action this spring.
Sophomore No. 40 Kylie Collins clinched the overall dual-match win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court 2 against Saidenova. Leading 3-2 in her opening set, Collins won three consecutive games to close out the first-set win. After Collins jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the second set, Saidenova won back-to-back games to pull to within 3-2. Collins held serve, broke Saidenova and held serve again to improve to 17-7 overall in singles play this season.
The remaining three singles matches featuring No. 4 Stearns on court 1, Ovrootsky on court 5 and sophomore No. 83 Malaika Rapolu on court 6 were stopped when Collins closed out her victory. All three Texas players won their respective opening sets and were leading in the second set when play was halted, including Ovrootsky who had just reached match point.
The Longhorns return to action when they open Big 12 Conference play by hosting No. 34 Texas Tech on Friday, March 11. First serve is set for 3 p.m. Central at the Texas Tennis Center.
