Kibler claims fourth in 200-meter freestyle at FINA World Championships

Drew Kibler placed fourth in men’s 200m freestyle; Anna Elendt earned runner-up finish in women’s 100m breaststroke.
BUDAPEST, Hungary – Texas Swimming's Drew Kibler placed fourth for the United States in the men's 200-meter freestyle at the FINA World Championships on Monday at the Danube Arena. Anna Elendt captured the silver medal for Germany in the women's 100-meter breaststroke.
Kibler finished fourth overall and was the top finisher for the United States in the men's 200m free with personal-best 1:45.01. David Popovici of Romania was the victor with a time of 1:43.21. Hwang Sunwoo of Korea placed second in 1:44.47, while reigning Olympic champion Tom Dean of Great Britain took third in 1:44.98.
Elendt touched the wall in 1:05.98 to claim the 100m breast silver medal, while Benedetta Pilato of Italy won gold in 1:05.93 and Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania captured bronze with a time of 1:06.02. In seventh place at the turn, Elendt split 34.97 seconds over the second half of the race to secure her first major international medal.
Back on the men's side, Caspar Corbeau competed in the 50-meter breaststroke for The Netherlands, advancing to the semifinals and placing sixth in his semis heat with a personal-best 27.44, the 12th-fastest time in the round. He advanced to the semifinals after placing fourth in his preliminary heat, equaling his then-career-best with a time of 27.48.
The FINA World Championships resume on Tuesday with the morning session getting underway at 2 a.m. CT and the evening session at 11 a.m. CT. The morning session will be streamed on fina.org and the evening session can be viewed on the Olympic Channel and Peacock.
