Current WTA No. 478 singles will join the Longhorns as a freshman for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
AUSTIN, Texas — Nicole Khirin (Rishon LeZion, Israel) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play tennis at The University of Texas, head coach Howard Joffe announced Tuesday. Khirin will be eligible as a freshman for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
"In Nicole Khirin, Texas is getting an extremely skilled tennis player alongside an experienced competitor. She has served in the Israeli army while still being able to win matches on the pro circuit," Joffe said. "Naturally, Nicole's inclusion will bolster our team, and to that end I'm delighted. But it's Nicole's lovely personality and kind nature that has me most excited about getting to work with her and serve her intentions here in Austin."
Khirin has a current UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) of 11.07. The UTR is a global tennis player rating system intended to produce an objective, consistent and accurate index of players' skill in the game of tennis.
Khirin is No. 478 in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings and No. 542 in the latest WTA doubles rankings and achieved a career-high ITF (International Tennis Federation) singles ranking of No. 21 (June 27, 2022). She won the 2021 Israeli National Singles Championship and is a member of Israel's Billie Jean King Cup team (formerly Federation Cup).
She has registered one ITF singles title, the 15K event in Heraklion, Greece in December 2021, and claimed three ITF doubles championships, including the 25K crown in Akko, Israel in May 2022. Last week, Khirin advanced to the singles semifinals at the 25K tourney in Raanana, Israel.
