Piperi Named Big 12 TF Scholar Athlete of the Year

IRVING, Texas – Texas track and field and NCAA shot put champion Tripp Piperi was named the Big 12 Conference 2022 Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. Earlier in the month, Piperi was also named the USTFCCCA Field Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The Woodlands, Texas, native holds a 3.97 GPA while pursuing a graduate certificate in strategic communications and competed in every meet the Longhorns competed in this season. Piperi is a two-time NCAA Shot Put champion and now owns both the indoor and outdoor shot put record program record. He also leaves the Forty Acres as a nine-time Big 12 shot put champion.
Piperi was also the NCAA Indoor shot put runner-up in 2022 and helped the Texas men's team win its first ever team title by scoring eight points to the team score.
Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing) and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team's scheduled contests, and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
