AUSTIN, Texas – Texas head track and field/cross country coach Edrick Floréal has named Greg Metcalf as the new Assistant Coach of men's cross country/distance.
Metcalf brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Forty Acres having led the University of Washington as the Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, working as the head men's and women's coach from 2002-2018.
"We are very excited for the addition of Greg Metcalf to our cross country and track staff," Floréal said. "We have a talented group of young men who will couple with him as we continue the program's success."

In his 20 seasons in Seattle, Metcalf worked with over 120 student-athletes, with distance runners combining for five NCAA track titles, 22 Pac-12 titles and 130 All-American awards. During his tenure with the Huskies, 19 of the 20 Washington records were held by his middle distance and distance runners.
In 2016, Metcalf was named the 2016 Pac-12 Men's Track Coach of the Year after leading Washington to a second-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships, the best finish in UW's history since 1976 scoring 122 points. A year prior, he led both the men's and women's cross country programs to top-10 finish at NCAAs for the first time in school history. He was also named the West Region Men's Coach of the Year after the men won their first West Regional title in history.
He led the women's cross country program to the 2008 NCAA title, the first-ever National title for Washington.
Metcalf served as Washington's assistant track and field/cross country coach from 1997 – 2002, prior to being named Washington's 12th head track and field coach, and just the fifth since Clarence "Hec" Edmundson took over in 1919.
Metcalf was an All-American distance runner himself for the Huskies from 1990-93.
The men of the Longhorns track and field/cross country program are fresh off being named the USTFCCA 2022 John McDonnell Program of the Year after a 14th-place finish at the NCAA men's cross country championships, a championship winning performance at the NCAA Indoor meet and a runner-up finish at outdoors.
The men's program returns the USTFCCCA South Central Region MVP in Haftu Knight and eight new faces to the distance program.
