Women’s Tennis’ Zein and Rapolu advance to singles final at ITA Texas Regionals

Longhorns advanced three players to the singles semifinals before Zein defeated Ovrootsky in three-set thriller.
FORT WORTH, Texas — University of Texas Women's Tennis graduate Marlee Zein and junior Malaika Rapolu advanced to the singles main draw final on the fourth day of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Texas Regionals at the Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU. The Longhorns advanced three players to the singles semifinals, before Zein won a hard-fought three-set thriller against UT teammate and sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky in one semifinal.
In the morning quarterfinals, Zein rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) victory against TCU's Helena Narmont. Ovrootsky followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Metka Komac of Texas Tech, and Rapolu added a 6-4, 6-1 victory against SMU's Jackie Nylander.
During Sunday afternoon's semifinals, Zein prevailed against Ovrootsky with a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 win. In the second semifinal, Rapolu earned a 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 victory over SMU's Hadley Doyle.
Monday's singles championship match between Zein and Rapolu is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT. No live streaming or scoring will be available for this tournament.
